KENT LUTON - VOCALS

Kent Luton Vocalist in Manteo Murphy Band

Kent Luton

Vocals

“My father instilled the joy in music in me from the day I was born, and I’ve  been singing ever since.” Kent’s first public appearance was in a talent contest in first grade and he won first place singing “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus”. Clarence (Moon) Munden came in second place and we've been harmonizing ever since.  At 14 he joined the church choir and taught himself to read music so he could sing tenor. He performed with a community group of teenage singers in high school and, at NC State, was privileged to perform with NCSU Chorus, the Madrigal Singers and the NCSU Men’s Chorus.

Luton has performed in various musicals in his hometown of Elizabeth City (one of our Manteo connections), a barbershop quartet, community chorus singing Bach, Mozart, Handel and Saint-Saens, too many weddings and way too many funerals and also continues with his church choir.  He’s sung with Five Star Band, Beach Box Bandits and is still performing after 44 years with Out ‘N the Cold. He now has added the uncomparable harmonies of Manteo Murphy to his repertoire.
